GUINEA BISSAU SUPREME COURT PRESIDENT RECEIVES ECONEC DELEGATION

The Predident of Guinea Bissau’s Supreme Court Justice Paulo Sanha Tuesday in Bissau received visiting delegation of ECONEC led by its governing board President Prof Mahmood Yakubu.

The delegation is on a Needs Assessment Mission to Guinea Bissau.

Crucial parliamentary elections are scheduled in November in the country, where an ECOWAS military Mission, ECOMIB has been assisting to stabilise the fragile political environment.

Prof Yakubu said there “can be no true democracy without the judiciary playing its key role.”

The delegation, which is duscussing the assistance which ECONEC or its members could render individually or collectively to Guinea Bissau, includes two other members of the ECONEC governing board and officials of Nigeria’s independent electoral commission, also chaired by Prof Yakubu.
